What is a cohesive team?

Let us start from the bottom to come to the top: A Cohesive Team

The outstanding learning solution Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ is the result of the partnership between Wiley Workplace Learning Solutions and best-selling author Patrick Lencioni. Together they have created a team development program which has one simple goal: To improve team effectiveness and productivity through the understanding and usage of The Five Behaviors™ model: Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results.

Trust:

Trust is the foundation of a cohesive team. Trust can only happen when team members are willing to show vulnerability to each other. This means to communicate honestly and telling each other „I’m sorry“ or „Your point makes more sense than mine“. Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ helps to achieve insight in the team’s culture und to develop empathy.

Conflict:

Being able to achieve a culture of a healthy conflict helps any team to grow. This means productive conflict focused on concepts and ideas. A team based on trust is able to find the best possible solution in a short period of time.

Commitment:

Commitment is a team‘s clarity around decisions and complete buy-in from ALL team members. Teams that achieve commitment are able to engage in healthy debate and support  decisions, even when not everyone agrees.

Accountability:

A high performing team sets high standards for themselves and their work. This also means to call people out for inadequate behavior. A team based on accountability feels trusted, respected and responsible. If team members feel accountable for their actions, decisions and responsibilities, they establish respect among their peers.

Results:

Results are every team’s goal. The combination of trust, engaging in productive conflict, achieving commitment, and holding team members accountable will encourage a team to focus on a common goal and never lose the sight of their collective goal. In great teams it’s assured that every team member will do his best to achieve greatness.
